Other Characters Currently In-Game: Xiao Xingchen
Character Name: Brooklyn
Series: Gargoyles
Age: In actual years, probably in his thirties, the equivalent of late teens-early twenties in a human, also he slept for a thousand years so who knows
From When?: End of Season 2, after Hunter’s Moon.
Warden Justification: Gargoyles are born to protect, Brooklyn more than most. He spends his evenings thwarting crime just because it disrupts his castle (which is to say, all of New York), so barge levels of chaos will hardly phase him. One time Puck from Shakespeare turned him into a human for five minutes. He knows King Arthur to say hello to. Really, this isn’t even weird, and he can work through a lot of nonsense. He’s young, fallible, and deeply traumatized, so he’s got a lot in common with much of the inmate population (though he’s so painfully chaotic good he may struggle a bit relating to some of the nastier ones), and he’s used to making alliances where he must and giving lots of second chances. He’s not afraid of feelings talk, he’s pretty calm and empathetic, and if you get out of line he can pick you up and hang you by your collar until you calm down.
Item: Extremely 90s walkie talkie
Abilities/Powers: Gargoyles are stronger and tougher than humans, on a scale of “carry large person, haul a fallen tree maybe” rather than “throw a bus” superhero style. Their claws are especially powerful, capable of punching through stone, an ability mostly used for cool climbing but potentially pretty devastating in combat. They can “glide, not fly” with their wings, meaning some distance and drafts are necessary to stay airborne, even if the laws of physics aren’t strictly being followed.
Normally, gargoyles are transformed into stone by the sun. Since the barge lacks a natural day-night cycle, this will still kick in when he sleeps, instead, something he’ll still need to do a lot of because of all the energy gargoyle metabolisms burn. Any ports with actual sunlight will cause the normal rules to reassert themselves.
Wardening Strategies and Philosophies: Brooklyn has a wretched past and an unbreakable moral code, but he’s also young, flexible, and quick to learn. He feels all his feelings, just, so much, but he recognizes that about himself, and makes a conscious choice whenever he opts to be mature, steady, and principled. The urges to lash out, to curl into a little ball and give up, and to treat the world like it’s treated you are all familiar. He was very aware of all the growing up he’s had to do, and that means he’s capable of both sharing that path and empathizing with those who might need to walk it.
His hero complex is a little overdeveloped, admittedly. Gargoyles have strong protective and territorial instincts, he more than most as a response to losing everything so young. When he fastens on, he’s not letting go, and he has a bad habit of deciding how relationships are going to go based on his own wants. Everybody has something to work on.
For all he’s a vigilante knight errant, Brooklyn is also, well, a teenager. He can be impulsive, flighty, and a complete glutton, be it for cheeseburgers or motorcycle racing incidents. He craves connection and takes it personally when it’s denied. Again, he knows this about himself, and having to make the decisions over and over to trust, reach out, and risk being slapped away? He knows the sting and the futility of trying. There’s a lot of weary empathy to him, and he hasn’t run out yet.
He can hold a grudge and he is entirely too upright for his own good sometimes. He may not be a great fit for an inmate with histories of, say, war crimes and wanton cruelty. He’s a little fragile in places. Comes of being made of stone. But weird magical and technological traps? He’s heard it all. Let him tell you about the many times he’s punched Macbeth, Thane of Cawdor.
Deal: Restoring the gargoyles who were broken at Castle Wyvern a thousand years prior.

Special Notes: Brooklyn will be arriving with Bronx in tow, a “gargoyle beast” whose characterization is an animation-standard dog but maybe a bit smarter. He’s functionally a pet, on the scale of a very large dog, serving as both company and ice-breaker. Gargoyles get pretty wiggy if they’re alone.
